Run for a Safe Climate - 29 November 2009

During November 2009, thirty emergency service workers will run 6000 kms from Cooktown in Queensland, via NSW, Victoria, South Australia, then back to the western district coast of Victoria, to finish, in Melbourne, at the St.Kilda Sea Baths on Sunday 29 November.

The runners are all emergency workers: police, firemen, soldiers, park-rangers, ambulance drivers. They are running to raise awareness of the need for a strong government response to climate change. They are also running to highlight the solutions that already exist to deal with the problem.

The Run for a Safe Climate finished on St.Kilda Beach, at the St Kilda Sea Baths, at 2 pm on Sunday 29 November 2009. This epic, 6000 km, 28 day run was completed by 25 emergency workers - police, fire-fighters and health workers. The run achieved its goal of highlighting the reality of climate change in Australia, and the existing solutions available to deal with it.

500 people greeted the runners with the human sign 000 CLIMATE EMERGENCY.
